While Nevada law does not require homeowners to purchase a policy, your mortgage lender sure will. Home insurance in Las Vegas typically covers damage from fire, lightning, hail, theft and other common perils. Standard policies do not cover damage from hurricanes, earthquakes or flooding, but you can pay extra to have these events covered.
Many Las Vegas backyards have pools and trampolines. However, an accident in the water or on a trampoline won’t be covered by standard policies. Ask your provider for supplemental insurance so you are not liable for injuries on your property.
For more detailed information, the Nevada Division of Insurance publishes a useful guide for homeowners explaining coverage types and tips for purchasing insurance.
The cost of home insurance in Las Vegas
Las Vegas homeowners enjoy affordable policies. The average yearly premium here is about $675 while the average costs nationally are around $100 more. How much coverage you want depends on personal factors, but your dwelling coverage should be enough to cover the replacement value of your home should you need to rebuild.
